History of the Lieksa trust by Dr.Wiqar Shah
In 2005 there was a major earthquake in Pakistan which killed atleast 80 thousand, wouded so many and made milions homeless. Just after the disaster I served as an orthopaedic surgeon in the Bagh area for a month. We could treat medically many children, but it was heart breaking to see that they had non place to go from the hospital. No parents,no relatives or any other institutions.Same was the case with widow mothers with small children.
I realised its impossible to help everybody but possible to help few.
I live in Lieksa which is a small town in the northeast of Finland.People here wanted to know
about this disaster and wanted to help. A decision was made to construct and run an orphanhouse in the disaster area.I registered a welfare organization in 2006 in pakistan and in honour of Lieksa natives the name was also chosen as Lieksa trust. My close school friends and relatives were very helpful and by their efforts trust is gradually growing.
I am very greatful for all the individuals as well as organizations who heleped us.It has deeply touched my heart and increased my faith in humanity.
Wiqar Shah,chairman Lieksa Trust.
